Every now and then I go through these phases where I don’t like shopping for clothes. It usually happens around this time of the year– I begin my spring cleaning and become shocked (and appalled) by the amount of things I actually own. My boyfriend (happy birthday Lang!) asked me last night the avergae number of pieces of clothing Americans buy each year (excluding hosiery and shoes). I guessed 200 and he looked at me me confused stating, “uh… no… the number is 50, do you buy 200 pieces of clothes each year?”

Anyway, I’ve been looking for something to post about that fit my recent mood, and Eric from Personal Closet had just thing! Think of it like a 100% free (don’t ask me how they do it) ebay specifically designed to help you get rid of those clothes, shoes and bags taking up space in your closet.

The idea of PersonalCloset was born after a conversation the founder, Eric McNack of St. Louis, Missouri, had with his wife regardling the lack of closet space in their home (namely for his things). Shortly after the conversation, a mandate was issued by his wife: Build a website for women. A website that allows women to sell clothing and clothing related items in a non-auction environment. Give the website a name that women can identify with. And most importantly, keep it simple. The rest is history.

Creating my own account sounds like a perfect activity for a rainy weekend and freeing up space (under the guest room bed, bedroom bed, and storage closet which are all currently stuffed with boxes of my clothes) just may be the best birthday present I can give L!
