Yesterday was my birthday and I have to say it was one of my favorites. I seriously have the most amazing group of friends here in Boston… to top things off, I reconnected with some of my favorite people from the past (MP, I am still smiling!).

Anyway, instead of getting all mushy and reflective on you, I’ll use this space to write about the creative Brazilian label TCHIBI. Nineteen year old designer Mariana Tchibi discovered fashion as a child while watching her grandmother knitting scarves and sweaters. At age 18 she won the “L’oreal Criando Moda” competition in São Paulo and her career began to take off.

Her style combines modern silhouettes with whimsical/ folky embellishments for a look that is truly unique and inspired! Looking beyond the superficial, Mariana believes fashion can act as a sort of window to your soul. For that reason, her designs are complex and target “strong and determined people.”

In her words, “a fashion creation can come from everywhere, even a bad feeling or a chaotic situation. I believe is very important to a fashion designer to be authentic.”

Check out her myspace page and her page on NJAL.

Also, don’t forget to enter the chickdowntown contest… in this economy,  it’s hard to justify blowing $250 on great clothes…if you win, you’ll have the perfect excuse!
