When I was a kid I used to be full of inspiration… to the point that I would be doing one thing (like: taking notes in class, getting ready for track practice or doing homework) and then all of a sudden I’d be overcome with inspiration and have to stop everything and write. Or draw. But mostly write. At the time I resented the feeling because it often got in the way of things… regardless, I would always walk away after with something I loved. Short stories, letters, drawings…etc.
As I’ve gotten older that feeling comes less. I remember once in law school I was sitting in the common room reading Torts when I got this really cool idea for a drawing (I’m a big pen and ink person) so I closed my computer and started sketching it out on a piece of copier paper. Some random schoolmate to whom I’d never spoken before came over to me and studied the sketch and then literally grabbed my arm and said something to effect of, “Don’t lose this, ever. Don’t stop being creative. Law school will try to teach it out of you but you have to fight to keep it there.” It was totally random but I remember that encounter to this day because it has been somewhat of a struggle to keep that aspect of me awake, and yes random classmate, I do fight to keep it!
I think the best way to do that is to surround yourself with art, beautiful things and beautiful, passionate people. I am very fortunate in that regard and lucky to know people like SS and others who by their mere presence keep that inspired, creative side of me awake!
Anyway, I know you like fashion but I also know how well rounded you are and how much you appreciate all things cultural, artistic and creative. I discovered Ryo Tomo aka Ryan Luikens on Ninunina‘s blog and thought I’d share his wonderful illustrations with you! Enjoy the day and stay inspired!
