Summer is definitely upon us . . . and I feel another PSA coming on. I’ve seen so many unfortunates walking down the streets of Boston lately. . . Just the other day I was driving with my friend and observed some “situations” that were so bad I literally wanted him to pull the car over so I could help. Keep in mind I’m currently economically-challenged, so the kind of help I was hoping to render didn’t necessarily have anything to do with staying on trend (you know I don’t really believe in that anyway). No, it was about simple steps people can take to look presentable in the hot summer sun. Here are a few quickies to start your Thursday (it is Thursday, right?)
I think the most important thing, is to accept the fact you are not Gisele. I know you go to the gym every day. I know you eat salads from Whole Foods (the cart with all the fruits, nuts, and grains on it). I know you’re one of the sizes that constantly sells out at J. Crew… but still. You’re not Gisele and you just can’t pull off certain things. To that end:
1. Please wear a bra. They’re not as perky as you think, unless they’re fake… then I guess you can probably go without.
2. If you’re wearing sandals, please for the love of God make sure your tooties are presentable. The other day I sat next to an unfortunate yellow-nailed (um, yeah, NOT intentional) creature on the T it was really quite disturbing.
3. This whole fishnets with denim cutoffs look is terrible. It really only works if you’re Taylor Momsen and only sort of works there.
4. I know short shorts are in, but just a little advice before your step out with a 2-inch inseam… stand in front of a mirror while holding another mirror in your hand. Turn around and hold the other mirror up. Analyze. Accept. And if the view dictates, change into something more flattering.
Ok, I’m done being bitchy. It’s just, you’re a beautiful person…wearing unflattering clothes only detracts from that. When you step out into that sharp summer light, make sure those rays are highlighting your best attributes.
Speaking of highlights, Naim Josefi of Beckmans and Souzan Youssouf of Konstfack designed and produced five pairs of awesome shoes for Naim’s “Melonia” collection (middle). The pair envisage a world in which we could produce and recycle such objects in a closed loop. Other works on this page are from Naim’s portfolio.
