Fashion blogs often give you up-to-the-minute fashion week coverage. Sometimes, they even give you back stage snap shots. Fashion156, the innovative on-line fashion magazine for emerging talent has taken it one step further and is giving readers unprecedented access to the weeks leading up to LFW:
For AW11 we have decided to track 14 of our favourite designers in the run up to LFW as we follow them from collection conceptualization to completion as they unveil their designs at LFW. Throughout the process we will be going, in studio, unveiling a AW11 preview look from their upcoming collection as well as going backstage at LFW.
Their hand-picked designers include many of my favorites including David Longshaw, Hermione de Paula, and Fannie Schiavoni.
Fashion is just like any other job. The other day I was speaking with a mechanic about his previous jobs, and he was telling me that he used to clean scratches off of elevator doors. I know, I know, huh? It was actually really interesting. He said he used to go into fancy office buildings when no one was around, with all of this crazy equipment, and resurface metal elevators. The moral of his story was, “there’s always something going on behind the scenes, stuff you don’t even know exists.” I’m sure your job is like that too… from lawyers, to surgeons, to cheese mongers…. the person the client/patient/ consumer sees in action is usually the very polished person we all strive to be in public… behind the scenes are messy files, unpaid bills, and inventories that need completion.
It’s a good thing to keep in mind as you go through your day and interact with people. There’s always a story behind the story.
