Sketchy

Remember when you were a kid and you could sit and draw for hours? I could get lost on a sheet of paper… it was awesome. I still have my moments (right Katie?) but I have to admit it’s harder for me to devote time to creative endeavors these days. That’s why I love the concept behind Ankur Gupta’s collection, Ambiguous Desires of a Child. It’s inspired by children, dreams and surreal elements of Hinduism…. don’t you just love that dress? Doesn’t make you want to break out your colored pencils?

If so, (semi-awkward transition, I know. Coffee isn’t working this morning) I have the perfect place to direct your efforts: The Sketchbook Project is back! I wrote about this last year and love that they’re doing it again… Basically, once you sign up for the project (it’s $25), Art House Co-op sends you a package containing a custom-designed Sketchbook Project sketchbook with a barcode on it, your chosen theme (you can pick from 40), and detailed instructions about the project. Then you sketch. On the Metro, at home, at work, whatever. When you’re done you send the sketchbook back.

After receiving the completed sketchbooks, the entire 2012 collection is exhibited on an international tour and displayed in a permanent collection at the Brooklyn Art Library.
