OMG, I am totally obsessed with this awesome jewelry collection from Littlefly! What a great idea!

Paper is many things: a carrier of text, illustration, history and emotion.

Jeremy May has captured the beauty of paper via a unique laminating process. Littlefly jewellery is made by laminating hundreds sheets of paper together, then carefully finishing to a high gloss. The paper is selected and carefully removed from a book, and the jewelery re-inserted in the excavated space.

Each piece is impossible to replicate, and is unique to the wearer. The beauty of the jewels extends within the piece: text and images pass all the way though the object, only exposed at the surfaces – giving a tantalising glimpse of the book within.

Ahhh! Sorry for the typos in this post… blogging from my cell… not a good idea!

Can you just smell the back-to-school in the air? I have to say I’m not overly-impressed with the “trends” this fall, although I did enjoy reading my September issues this past weekend. Sometimes in fashion, as in life, I crave that simple kind of beauty. The kind you don’t have to work for. A flower growing through the cement, rich brown eyes and all that…

I guess that’s why I like Rabens Saloner by Birgitte Raben Olrik so much. The collections represent a cross between wearable fashion and a genuine love for traditional craftsmanship. The label is a reaction to a fashion scene that has become too fashionable, too gimmicky and too predictable. RS designs things to wear that make life easier: well made garments that grow on you and have less to do with the battle cry of the season. Each collection is gorgeous with super wearable pieces. Love!

Nothing like a rainy Monday to make you jump out of bed and embrace the week ahead! Lol.

To help get those creative juices flowing, I thought you’d enjoy the concept behind Nadja Penfold’s collection:

Kingston BA graduate Nadja Penfold’s final collection is inspired by the neurological condition ‘Synaesthesia’, a rare condition in which sensory neurons responsible for converting information from external stimuli to internal stimuli becomes disordered. Hearing colours, seeing sounds and tasting touch.

“Using touch as a central theme I have explored the blurring of boundaries between conventional cognitive processes and senses becoming overlapped in a way only experienced by Synesthetes.”

Sight is a key sense to the aesthetic design. Nadja produces work that stimulates the senses used in the absence of sight by incorporating Braille into the silhouettes. The collection consists of hand woven jacquard that in Braille reads “Hear colours. See sound. Taste touch.”

Nadja’s collection was shortlisted for the best womenswear collection at Graduate Fashion Week.
