Um, Yes Please! KILLER shoes.

You already know I heart IVH, but these shoes take it to a whole other level… love them! Iris collaborated with United Nude to create these awesome “Fang” shoes. From UN: Models stepped out in “Fang” shoes with ten sharp teeth to each foot – the product of van Herpen’s fifth successful collaboration with United Nude. The shape of the wedge is so complex that each one consists of fiberglass and carbon fiber, made in a slow molding process. It is not yet certain whether these shoes will come to market as a limited edition, as was the case with previous Iris van Herpen x United Nude designs, but it is worth keeping an eye out for them. Spotted: On Pinterest . . .
New Talent: Anne Sofie Madsen

. . . As I try to sort out my plans and my week I thought I'd leave you with the wicked talented Anne Sofie Madsen (I threw the Boston "wicked" in there because, despite last nights devastating loss, I'm still a proud Bostonian). Seriously though, I absolutely love Anne's crisp, clean futuristic designs... Edgy enough to turn heads but definitely wearable.

Live!! LCF Fashion Show aka #Live @LCFLondon #MA12

Twitter shorthand is so amusing to me because it has slowly morphed into this whole new language and way of communicating. Just recently, I learned that hash-marks at the beginning of mushed together phrases is a way to propel them (and any subsequent 140 letter thought) into twitter’s virtual spotlight. #ItsFunnyHow that works, right? I know I am late with the Twitter thing. Quite honestly, it’s sort of daunting. It demands your attention. The minute you digest one trend, 200 others have come and gone. It’s sparked science and research… and today it found it’s way into my post title. For a good, exciting cause of course. . . London College of Fashion (@LCFLondon) is broadcasting it’s 2012 Master’s collections (#MA12) LIVE in about 12 hours. Check out all of the talented designers below (my favorite, Charlotte Simpson is featured above) and tune in tonight! Live catwalk show broadcast Date: Thursday 2 February, 20.00 Catwalk Show Running Order Xianfen Gu View gallery Tina Elisabeth Reiter View gallery Arena Page View gallery Joseph Turvey View gallery Seul Ki Uhm View gallery Sum Yu Li View gallery Ming-Pin Tien View gallery Wan Ying Lo View gallery Mei Tang View [...]

Rabbit Rabbit

As a kid, I learned that saying “Rabbit Rabbit” on the first of the month (I think it’s actually supposed to be the first thing you say on the first of the month) is good luck. This was before Wikipedia so I wasn’t quite sure if it was a random family tradition or a “real thing.” Fast-forward a few years and BAM: Wikipedia confirmed that I wasn’t the only person in America aware of this cute little superstition. Also, my friend the Cheese Monger confirmed it to be true. In celebration of February 1st here is a cute little rabbit ring to bring you good luck. I discovered designer Emilie Thomas on Boticca, a website collection of emerging jewelry designers. Enjoy! Also on NotCot

1 pair of earrings destroys 500 assault rifles

Hello Monday. Today’s company goes to show you that with a little imagination and heart, dreadful can be transformed into beautiful. Fonderie47 was created by Peter Thum (of Starbucks Ethos water) and John Zapolski. Together with designers Roland Iten and Philip Cangri, they take confiscated AK-47 rifles from the Democratic Republic of Congo and transform them into beautiful cuff-links, earrings, and rings. This up-scaling process has removed more than 6,000 assault rifles from the nation and each purchase contributes to that number (one set of cuff-links = the destruction of 100 assault rifles). Truly a splurge you can feel good about. Not only is the cause important, the message contained in each piece is a reminder that we all have the power to create good from bad, beauty from ugly and hope from despair.
